What is the most common reason people fall short of their health and nutrition goals? It’s our way of thinking. It is not enough to just follow a healthy diet and exercise routine in order to reach our health and fitness goals. If you don’t first change your mindset, you’ll fail at every attempt to improve your health and fitness.

Humans are hardwired to think in a certain way, and it’s not always a positive one. We have a tendency to be pessimistic, whether about ourselves or others. Is there a way to improve our mental condition so that we can accomplish our goals?

It’s a good idea to stay away from setting yourself up for failure from the get-go. In many cases, we set ourselves up for failure by aiming to be an Olympian when we can’t even climb a flight of stairs without having to stop and collect our breath. You’ll eventually give up on a goal that seems impossible since your mind will persuade you it’s too difficult or impossible to reach. The human mind works this way. We often give up too quickly, and as a result, we may never see the rewards of our efforts in the long run.

In order to achieve your goals, you must break them down into smaller, more manageable chunks. There is nothing wrong with dreaming big, but you need to take a reality check. Everything must be broken down into manageable chunks or baby steps before you can move on to the next level. You’ll be able to feel accomplished by taking one step at a time and accomplishing minor goals. When you’re encouraged and motivated, you’ll be able to keep moving forward.

The key to coaching oneself to improved health and fitness is to remain motivated, to think positively, and to take action. Say, for example, that you have to perform five push-ups at some point in the day. You tell yourself that’s a simple goal, and you’re confident in your ability to accomplish it. Because of this, you’re motivated enough to take some action to prove it to yourself. Achieved my goal; I had full confidence in my abilities. As if that modest aim wasn’t enough, something had just occurred in your head. Your subconscious has just been reinforced. You’re well on your way to improving your physical and mental health and fitness by coaching and training your mind.
